Facility

The NRV 911 Emergency Communications Center is located in the Montgomery County Public Safety Building at 1 E. Main Street in Christiansburg.  The building, which was previously the old Montgomery County Courthouse, was completely renovated into a new state-of–the-art facility to meet the needs of NRV 911 and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The renovation design project began in 2011 to review the requirements for a new and modern consolidated 911 center. The design and build phase established the fourth floor of the building, which consists of approximately 10,000 square feet, to sustain 911 operations for many years to come. Along with the emergency communications center, the floor includes a lobby/reception area, administrative offices, spacious server room, training room/emergency operations center, kitchen/break area, bunkrooms and bathroom/shower facilities. The design also includes a quiet room for 911 dispatch personnel to decompress from tragic or highly stressful circumstances. It was imperative the modern design also incorporate the needs of staff, along with the technology requirements, to receive and process calls each day.

The building achieved substantial completion in the fall of 2015 and administrative staff occupied the floor in October 2015. The consolidated center became operational in July 2016 after all technology and equipment was installed, tested, and ready for cutover.

The facility contains safety measures with video surveillance and electronic access control that affords the necessary back-up and redundancy measures for the critical services provided to our community.
