Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment to Digital Inclusion

The New River Valley Emergency Communications Regional Authority (NRV 911) is committed to ensuring that our digital services are accessible to all residents, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that every person in the New River Valley has the right to access emergency information and public records with dignity and independence.

Standards & Conformance

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide array of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

Our efforts to maintain compliance include:

  • Section 508 Compliance: Designing our site to meet federal requirements under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Keyboard Navigation: Ensuring all site features are navigable without a mouse.
  • Alt-Text & Captions: Providing text alternatives for non-text content and synchronized captions for video materials.
  • Clear Hierarchy: Using properly structured headings and landmarks to aid screen reader navigation.

Ongoing Efforts

Accessibility is an ongoing process. We regularly review our site and digital assets to identify and remediate potential barriers. While we strive for 100% compliance, some legacy documents (such as certain older PDFs) may not yet be fully optimized for all assistive technologies.
